Questions, answered

Do I need anything else?

Three things from home: digital kitchen scales that read in grams, water (distilled if you can) and a protected, level table. You also need a mixing cup, a spatula and a silicone mould, which come in our kits or can be added separately.

What is FormCast?

A natural mineral casting powder for making objects in moulds. It is odourless, non-toxic and environmentally friendly. You weigh it, mix it with water, pour it and demould after 25 to 30 minutes.

Is it beginner friendly?

Yes. There are no special skills: weigh, mix for about a minute, pour, then wait. Our free beginner's guide walks you through your first piece step by step.

How messy is it?

Less than you might think. The powder can be dusty, so pour it gently and cover your table. Wet mix wipes off with a damp cloth before it sets. Let leftover mix harden in the cup and put it in the bin, never down the sink.

Is it safe to use indoors?

Yes. FormCast is a natural, odourless and non-toxic material, so it is comfortable to use at home. As with any fine powder, pour it gently and avoid breathing the dust, keep the powder away from children and pets, and don’t use finished pieces for food or drink. Full safety notes are printed on the bag.

Will it work first time?

If you weigh carefully and wait the full 25 to 30 minutes before demoulding, your first piece should come out cleanly. A few small bubbles or a soft edge are normal at first, and the guide shows how to avoid them next time.

What if it doesn't work?

Email us a photo and tell us what you did, and we'll help you fix it. If the powder itself is at fault, we'll replace it or refund it. Unopened items are also covered by our 60-day return guarantee.

How much water do I add?

Weigh both. 3 parts powder to 1 part water gives the most fluid mix and the finest detail. 4 parts powder to 1 part water gives the strongest piece. The mix calculator on this page does the maths.

Can I colour and sand it?

Yes. Pigment goes into the water before the powder. Once fully cured, after 24 to 48 hours, it can be sanded, sealed or left as it is.

Can I make candle holders with it?

Yes. FormCast works very well for candle holders, as long as the piece is sealed properly. Let it cure fully for 24 to 48 hours, then seal it inside and out before use. Use tealights in their metal cups or a glass insert, and never leave a lit candle unattended.
