In my own words

Why I started HAND + FORM.

I got tired of an industry that felt lazy and outdated. So I decided to build what I wished existed.

I just wanted to make stuff.

I’d just finished product design and wanted to keep making things, but honestly, I always found materials a bit of a nightmare. I’d have an idea, then spend ages trying to figure out what material I needed, where to get it and how I was actually meant to use it.

The weird thing is, these are creative materials. They’re literally there to help people turn ideas into real things, but they were being treated like the least creative thing in the world. Industrial websites, technical language, boring packaging and instructions that made everything sound way harder than it needed to be.

The whole experience just felt disconnected from the person actually making something. I kept thinking, why does it have to be like this?

And that’s basically where HAND + FORM started.

I thought it would be way easier than this.

At the start, I genuinely thought: find a great material, make it easier to use, and get it out there. How hard could it be?

Turns out, pretty hard. Months of samples, testing, manufacturers, packaging changes, delays and loads of things I had absolutely no clue about.

Most of it I was just figuring out as I went. There were definitely moments where I thought, what have I got myself into?

Finally, it’s here.

After all those months of developing, testing and figuring things out, FormCast is finally here.

But for me, this isn’t really the finished product. It’s the first step towards what I want HAND + FORM to become.

A place where creative materials feel creative again. Where they’re easier to discover, easier to understand and actually enjoyable to use.

I want someone to come to HAND + FORM with an idea and leave thinking, yeah, I can actually make that.

That’s what I’m building.

What we envision

More people making.
Less standing in the way.

More than a place to buy material: a connected practice of what you use, what you learn, and who you learn beside.
